The kind that take over an hour.
I tap my foot on the floor glancing at my watch. It's my third time in five minutes.
An hour? What can they do with a squeegy, a vacuum and a towel for over an hour?
Worst of all I paid for this.
Patience eludes me.
Where is my calm? Being peaceful in the moment?
The heat is unbearable, I think, trying to make excuses for myself. No one would be patient in this heat.
The woman on my left is worse off than I am. She's already walked over to the manager twice to log her complaints.
What ever happened to patience?
It's a lost art.
We want our food and we want it now. We want our coffee so we race through the drive thru expecting it to be ready as we brake beside them. We want our drive-cleaning done today. So they offer same day service.
It's ridiculously difficult to be patient these days.
I am tapping my foot again but then one of the car wash guys starts waving his towel to get my attention. My wait is over.
Although it seemed interminable, it was worth the wait.
The car was glistening, shiny and looking brand new.
Patience isn't really too hard, I mockingly tell myself. As Margaret Thatcher once said,
"I am extraordinarily patient, as long as I get my way in the end."

I don't think we have lost our patience but life is movimng so fast today than it did long ago that were find ourselves running breathless just to try and keep up.
Thank you for stopping by, I'll be back
Hey, guess we both lost our virginity today ;)
I had my patience revelation in Paris- as I waited 30 minutes to be even acknowledged by a waiter. The person I was having dinner with explained I could not expect a rush for the service, the meal or the check. So by the time I left France I was practicing patience with a smile-( if you are going to have to be patient I can think of no better place to do so:) I loved this post! As usual:)
Just wanted to make a "courtesy call" and let you know I've given this post a mention on my blog. I'm not big on waiting, but sometimes we don't seem to have a choice!
I don't like waiting either but with the use of tech toys/tools I can do other things while I wait.
Hallelujah for the Blackberry and wireless Internet!! :-)
brenda- why thank you for the mention...very kind of you. and you're right, often we have no choice regarding waiting-guess that's why we get so impatient-when it's out of our control.
getsmartgal - wanna confession? i'm as bad as madonna with my blackberry. i often sleep with it under my pillow :)
walker- and aren't they all wondering about our virginity now...? :)
aphro-me-siac - c'est vrai, patience in paris is a wonderful place to practice...
Great blog! I love your writing. I love quotes and your story of famous men and their spiritual side was fascinating! And patience, well, it sometimes feels like the whole world is in a hurry and I sometimes am thankful for the things that force me to slow down.
Patience is a virtue... which I don't have. That is one of the biggest issues I have. I want everything right now today. Thanks for bringing some clarity to the issue.
odd chick - good point. there is something to be said for enforced relaxation. so cool you appreciate it.
sogeshirts - "patience is a virtue...which i don't have". you crack me up.
